John 21

In this final chapter Peter is reinstated. Notice that Jesus asks Peter if he loves Him the same number of times Peter denied Him!

In verse 21:18-19 The Archeological Study Bible points out, "The early church understood the phrase "stretch out your hands" (v. 18) as a prophecy of crucifixion. Peter would be a martyr. Tradition indicates that he was in fact crucified upside down." (pg 1763)

Notice too that John identifies himself at the end of the chapter. John also was one of the disciples who lived until old age and in his old age had a revelation which we will look at toward the end of the summer!
